Airplane Fears

My least favorite place in the entire world is going on long airplane rides. The longest flight I’ve ever been on is: 8 hours, 5 hours and 4 hours so I don’t have too much experience with long flights. The longest flight I have ever been on is when I went to England when I was 7. A few years ago when the plane ‘MH370’ went missing I was in Florida and as I was leaving my grandmother jokingly said “I hope your plane doesn’t go missing.” This terrified me! Ever since that day I have had a fear of long airplane trips. This doesn’t even make sense as the odds of dying in a car crash are 1 to 114 and the odds of dying in any air accident is 1 to 9,821. Crazy!

To me being densely cramped up; having no point of escape; not knowing all the other people on the flight with you; and having to be there for a long period of time scares me. Then if your plane starts to crash you're sitting there on a trip to your death. You see the oxygen masks fall down from the ceiling, the captain tells you “We’re going down “. Everyone is freaking out screaming, crying and shouting; you’re most likely going to die. If you are not on a flight with your family you will never get the chance to say goodbye and if you are you get to sit with them as you all die. As you slowly fall out of the sky like a dead bird, you feel like this trip down is never going to end. Blackout. You never see the light of day again.

I’m not totally afraid of airplanes as they are actually one of the safest ways to travel on the planet, but I always way overhype myself when I really should be just thinking about the destination. You can also: download movies, play games and read books to help distract you from everything.
